Hey, man. Thanks, by the way...

Normally, this Nerd tries to stay away from fanbase infighting. I have had more than my fair share of that and quite frankly, it ruins my enjoyment of a show. Constantly battling with other fans in a war of words and circumstance regarding characters or 'ships is exhausting and not fun when the arguments are reduced to name-calling which always happens. Or people talking about what's obviously going to happen in the end while throwing ten month old quotes from the writers at you to support their theories.

However, as you can tell by my use of the word 'normally', I often succumb and get myself into trouble. Epically. Today I was watching the extended promo for 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and I ended up reading all 350+ comments on the vid.

First thing I learned? There are a lot of Delena fans out there. Obviously the comments on one promo are not a perfect barometer of the fandom as a whole, but...well, it makes me happy, okay? ;p

I was amused at all the Stefan fans who were working so very hard to simultaneously claim that Stefan is the 'badder' brother while swearing that Damon is terrible for various and sunder reasons and therefore should not be with Elena. Apparently the fact that those two notions contradict themselves doesn't matter to them.

The most common point of contention is that Damon hasn't thanked Stefan for going darkside/giving up his humanity to save his life.

Excuse me, what now?

Damon and Stefan's paths have crossed a grand total of...four times since Stefan left Mystic Falls with Klaus. Four. In the spirit of not simply telling these people to go fuck themselves for being idiots, let's think about each of these four times and figure out when the timing would have been appropriate for a thank you.

3.01 - The Birthday
Stefan holds Andie - Damon's fake, compelled girlfriend - hostage at the news station. When Damon arrives to pick Andie up, Stefan compels Andie to plummet to her death and deliberately prevents him from saving her. Damon rushes to Andie's twisted broken body and Stefan disappears while his back is turned.

3.02 - The Hybrid
While tousling with Ray - the rabid hybrid wannabe - Damon is about to get chomped on and Stefan saves him by ripping out the poor bastard's heart.

3.03 - The End of the Affair
Damon meets up with Stefan at Gloria's and gives him the old 'meet me outside, bro, we gots to talk' head nod. Stefan reacts with the 'wtf are you doing here' shove into a car. They bitch - yet again - about Stefan wanting him to stay away, adding the fact that Elena's in danger (GASP!) because she was supposed to die in the sacrifice and because of that there's a problem with the hybrids and Klaus is pissy. Damon's like 'dude, tell her yourself' and bounces to be a pin cushion-type distraction for Klaus.

3.05 - The Reckoning.
Damon and Elena are having a moment when full on No-Humanity Stefan interrupts the party and gets down with his quippy self. Stefan comes, he sees, he pours some booze, and he leaves.

Thus endeth the history lesson.

Now, I ask you, looking over that nonsense, where in the world would Damon have thought "you know, I should really thank Stefan for giving up his humanity to save my life"? While he was watching Andie fall to her death on Stefan's word? While Stefan held Ray's heart in his hand and miserably told him to keep Elena safe and get the hell away? When Stefan was in his face about Elena being the key to everything and that he had to get her out of there? When No-Humanity Stefan showed up and started drinking his liquor and spouting off about how per Klaus's orders, Elena is under his protection? I mean, seriously, when would it have been a good time for Damon to call attention to the misery Stefan has suffered and thank him for it? Do they realize how ridiculous that sounds? *sigh*
